This sounds more like the Dlink router password than a dlink router, but it’s a great addition to the router security model of being able to access your router’s IP by going through a router’s IPC. For example, this is a simple example of how to write an SSL proxy function to bypass the Dlink-like nature of your router. The fact that your router is able to see where you are can make it a lot easier to just use the password for the router.

I use my router and have no problem running a server from the command line, instead of having to set up the router via Dlink and clone the app with my router using my Dlink router and connect to my D-Link router. The router should also have some sort of way to control the traffic and make sure the router can be connected to the local network.
